Have you recently acquired a new puppy? If so, congratulations! During the first year of life, there are many health matters to consider. The very first step in our comprehensive wellness program is a detailed physical examination. A fecal examination is performed to check for internal parasites, so it is recommended to bring a stool sample to your puppy’s first visit. We will counsel you in nutrition and help you choose the diet specific to your puppy’s growth requirements. Behavioral counseling services, including house training tips, are also available. Pet insurance is highly recommended, and we can help you decide on a program that best suits your breed of dog.
Spaying for females and neutering for males are generally done at around 6 months of age. Neutering males at this age can greatly reduce roaming, urine marking and aggressive behaviours as well as the chance of testicular or prostate cancer. Spaying females before their first heat cycle will greatly reduce the risk of mammary cancer, and essentially eliminates the chance of pyometra (infection of the uterus). Additionally, spaying or neutering your dog will help decrease the amount of unwanted dogs found in local rescue groups or SPCAs.
If this all seems overwhelming for you, we have tailor-made puppy packages that include comprehensive care with great savings throughout their first year of life. Our most comprehensive package include vaccinations, deworming, fecal examinations, six weeks of free pet insurance, a free bag of premium puppy food, parasite prevention, microchipping, pre-anesthetic bloodwork, as well as a spay or neuter. Additionally, as part of this program, we offer free office calls for the rest of the year in case any illness arises. A more basic care package is also available.
