Dr. James Schulenberg
Dr. James Schulenberg is a native of the Niagara Peninsula and his love for animals was fostered at a young age, as he grew up with many family pets. Initially he pursued his interest in animals by operating a dog training academy. Dr. Schulenberg returned to school at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph and after he graduated he worked as a veterinarian in the Waterdown area before joining the team at Grandview Animal Hospital.
Returning to business ownership was always a career aspiration of his and in December 2010 Dr. Schulenberg purchased Grandview Animal Hospital. He enjoys building relationships with clients and their pets, and he has a special interest in internal medicine and animal nutrition.
Dr. Schulenberg has also used his skills in veterinary medicine as a member of the board of Christian Veterinary Missions of Canada. Through this organization he was also able to serve the people of Tanzania in skill development and education through a short-term mission trip.
Dr. Schulenberg enjoys camping, canoeing and hiking in summer or winter! With a new “old” home, he has been honing his renovation skills and love for landscaping. He and his wife Michelle have been blessed with three energetic boys and a daughter who also share their home with a German Shepherd Strider, tabby cat Zakia, canary Chip and four fish!Back to Top
Dr. Ashley Jeffs
Dr. Ashley Jeffs grew up on a hobby farm in the Niagara Region where her passion for animals began. She enjoyed caring for her family pets including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and horses, as well as any wildlife she encountered! She completed her undergraduate studies at University of Toronto before pursuing her veterinary career at St. George’s University in Grenada, completing her final year at the University of Georgia. For the first 3 years of her career, Dr. Jeffs was working at a busy small animal hospital in Rome, NY. She has a special interest in soft tissue surgery and enjoys seeing pocket pets including guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets and hamsters. In her spare time she enjoys running, hiking, travelling, spoiling her dog and 2 cats and spending time with family and friends.Back to Top
Dr. Tom Nugent
Dr. Nugent grew up on a farm in Stoney Creek area and began working as a veterinarian in 1964. He has worked in Chicago and Hamilton, and opened his first practice, Gagemount Animal Hospital in 1968. In 1989 he opened Grandview Animal Hospital as the original owner. He ran the practice with his wife, Pat until 2005 when he retired from practice ownership. He continues to love the work of veterinary medicine and enjoys occasionally coming out of retirement to provide Grandview Animal Hospital with his seasoned veterinary skills and experience, as well as catching up with some of his original patients! When he is not working, he and his wife Pat enjoy weekends at the cottage and time with their children and grandchildren. Always a farm boy at heart, he also still enjoys heading to the farm and doing some odd jobs in the fields and maintaining the property.Back to Top
Debbie began working with animals straight from school and did her training in the UK to be a veterinary nurse. After four years in the animal field, she embarked on a different career in the banking industry. Debbie and her husband Terry have two children, Ellie and Charlie. She emigrated to Canada with her family to settle in the Grimsby area and once again started working with animals when she joined the team at Grandview Animal Hospital. Debbie shares her home with a chocolate Lab named "Bobby". Deb’s friendly face will welcome you to Grandview and she is ready to answer any questions you might have when you call!Back to Top
Registered Veterinary Technician
Cindy grew up in nearby Grimsby and has had a love for animals all her life. She joined the Grandview Animal Hospital team in the summer of 2011 after graduating from Ridgetown College as a Registered Veterinary Technician. You may see her friendly face upon entering Grandview, but you can also be assured of her care for your pet behind the scenes while she works to ensure the safe delivery of anesthetics during surgery, placing IV catheters, developing x-rays or taking blood samples. Cindy is active in the clinic updating our Facebook page and website pictures, so talk to her if you’d like us to add your pet to our site! Cindy enjoys playing sports, camping, reading, and spending time with family, friends and her husband. She has a special canine friend, Linus - who is also a "graduate" from Ridgetown College - as well as a beloved kitten named Raja.Back to Top
Nikki grew up with a love of any living creature she could find, and had a special interest in horseback riding as a child. This fuelled her education at Ridgetown College, where she graduated from in 2009. Immediately after school she worked with exotics including elephants and big cats, but returned to a small animal clinic in 2014. Nikki joined our Grandview team in the spring of 2015 as an experienced technician but also a bubbly personality! She has a passion for animal behaviour and training and puts that into practice on her hobby farm, which includes her Border Collie “Diesel”, Lab X "Theo", cat "Gus", goats and horses. You can be sure Nikki is lovingly treating your pet as her own when they come into Grandview Animal Hospital.Back to Top
Tara grew up on the Stoney Creek mountain and always knew she was going to work in veterinary medicine. She has graduated with an honours degree in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph, a Vet Office Management certificate from Mohawk College and recently finished her Veterinary Technician diploma at Northern College, and we are thrilled to have her join our team spring of 2017!
Tara loves to travel and backpacked in high school through Italy, Switzerland and England. A once in a lifetime experience in 2014 allowed her to volunteer at a small animal clinic in South Africa for 3 weeks while seeing and working with antelopes, zebras and giraffes.
Tara is a self described nerd, bookworm and TV addict. She enjoys spending time with her big family, which includes her rescue dog, Mopsy, and her two cats, Ace and Edison.Back to Top
Josephine joined our health care team in the fall of 2016 and has been a great addition to our front staff. She grew up in nearby Hamilton and has an administrative work background. Whether you speak with Josephine on the phone or in person at the front desk, her genuine love for animals shines through and she would be happy to assist you and your pet in any way she can!
In her down time, Josephine loves spending time outdoors, on a beach, or with her beloved Yorkie, Meeko.

Lauren joined our team as our groomer in 2016 and has been a great addition! She comes to us with experience as a mobile groomer, and she has also studied veterinary terminology at Mohawk College. All throughout high school she volunteered at our local SPCA, giving her years of experience handling and caring for animals. When she is not making our patients look fabulous you may see her friendly face up in reception.
When she's not in the clinic, Lauren loves reading, cooking, and exploring new places with her family. Much of her time is spent with her American Eskimo, "Finnian", with whom she enjoys hiking our beautiful area.Back to Top
